Minutes of the January 6, 2004 Pack Committee Meeting:
1 . Advancement - Some families were not aware that Wolf & Bear cubs new to Scouting need to earn their Bobcat badge before we can award the Progress
Toward Ranks or beads. Den leaders, please help get this information out,
and get word to Rose and Gail if any are ready to recieve this (PackMaster is the most efficient way to accomplish this, but phone calls are OK too.) PLEASE get info to them by the Sunday night before the pack meeting - they have to tally awards needed and sometimes get to several Scout shops to find everything! We also discussed the fact that, with so many of our den leaders new to their jobs, it would be very helpful to hold at least one Den Leaders' meeting to answer questions and help with any issues.
2. T-Shirts - We're about to place our final order - anyone who hasn't provided a size for their Cub and/or requested extra shirts for Cubs or parents, contact Ann Cottle ASAP. Also, payments should be turned in for any shirts already received. (Remember, the Pack provided one t-shirt to each Cub, you only need to pay for EXTRA t-shirts, sweatshirts, and parent shirts. Pricing will be posted at the meeting.
3. Outings - We discussed plans for upcoming outings, including a snow-dependent sledding trip during vacation, bowling, Duck Tours (we are checking to see if we can hold a car wash at the church to pay for this, as it's a somewhat expensive tour - but FUN!), a warm-weather trip to Battleship Cove (we might get to sleep on deck!). E-mail users have probably received Norm's list of dates (careful, one of the pack meeting dates is wrong - we'll publish a new list at the January meeting and in the next Newsletter).
4. Popcorn - We recieved ALL payments on time THANK YOU EVERYBODY!!! Our profit was over $800, and we will be presenting prizes at the January meeting to all boys who sold popcorn, as well as awards for some of our top sellers. We discussed an alternative incentive system for next year - one of Chelmsford's most successful packs increases their profit by designating their own awards, including movie passes for the highest earners! We also discussed the fact that direct donations are a great benefit to the pack, and we need to include these in the incentive system (the current system has no provision for this).
5. Cub Scout Leader Pow-Wow 2004 - This is a really fun and informative leader training day. It will be held Saturday, January 17th. The day offers 6 training sessions (there are THIRTY THREE different topics, but you can only choose 6!), a mock pack meeting (leaders get to be cubs!), lunch, and a lot of fun. Some of our leaders did attend last year, but the more training we attend the better our program can become!
6. Upcoming Events:
Celtics Game - 1/18
Blue & Gold Banquet - 2/27
Pinewood Derby - 3/20 (Cars will be distributed at the January meeting)
Rechartering - Paperwork due by March 31. All families will be contacted regarding their Cubs' intent to continue Scouting next year.
7. Budget & Dues Update - We have a tentative volunteer for treasurer! Now that we have our popcorn revenue, we will develop our spending plan for the 2004 calendar year and determine whether or not we need to request dues payments. We also need to begin formulating a budget for CY 2005 in order to set an earning goal for the 2004 popcorn fundraiser.
